Travel box, Louis XIV period

Probably created by Edward Traherne in London between 1660 and 1720, this elegant box was intended for travelers as a safe to be fixed on the floor of a coach or on the shelves of a ship.

Made of solid oak with a veneer of violet wood, its structure is reinforced by corner strips and brass hinges with foliage decoration.

Designed and imagined for a nomadic life, its side handles make it easy to carry. It opens with a hidden mechanism that reveals a leather-lined interior with two drawers and a hiding place for valuables and jewelry.
