"Famous" Silkscreen Prints By John Stoddart

Ten silkscreen prints by John Stoddart, all taken from his photographs, a homage to Andy Warhol. And also a question, and that is, if he were alive today, would he have made portraits of the 'stars' that Stoddart photographed? Included in this work is an image of Joan Collins, used as a link between then and now, Warhol and the photographer, as Warhol made a portrait of her in the 1970s.

The complete series of ten silkscreen prints are presented in a bespoke box set, produced as an edition of 5. The individual prints themselves are of an edition of 10, each signed and numbered. Box dimensions: 64.5cm x 54.5cm x 2.5cm Print dimensions: 50cm x 50cm (Printed area: 35cm x 35cm) The Famous are; Iggy Pop, Miranda Richardson, Carla Bruni, Mel Gibson, Catherine Zeta-Jones, Hugh Grant, Joan Collins, P.J. Harvey, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Pierce Brosnan. Based in Whitstable but often in London, Stoddart is self-taught and has been in the business for over 25 years. A raconteur in his field, Stoddart’s past and present clients have included EMI, Harper’s Bazaar, The New York Times, Vogue and Virgin. He has published four books of his works – It’s Nothing Personal (1997), Peep World (2004), Flags and Badgers (2014) and Liverpool, before the Exodus (2016). John Stoddart is recognized as one of the world’s most renowned photographers. Born in the United Kingdom he is known as “the photographer to the stars”, photographing glamorous celebrities such as Catherine Zeta-Jones, Sir Anthony Hopkins, to big name bands including “The Rolling Stones”. John’s passions for photography began during his military service in the 70’s, taking a hobby of shooting images of his fellow troops, to expanding it into a full time career. Inspiration for his work and his image perspectives were drawn from master photographer idols that included Richard Avedon and Arthur Fellig, (”Weegee”). Their work inspired and perfected his style and passion for photography.

By the early 1980’s he had photographed every major record label band, establishing himself as a legend photographer. He has worked for major publications and brands that included Vogue, Harper’s, EMI and Virgin and is often credited for the return of glamour to popular culture. A notoriously fast photographer, he has a preference for working with film as opposed to digital. John’s passion for photography carries over to the complete printing process and also includes his collection of beautiful, era gone by cameras. He is not just a photographer, he is an artist and his work captures not just a picture but a story that can be told to the viewer through the eyes of his subjects
