Léopold Robert 1794-1835. Paire De Tableaux. Au Puits et Le Repos

Léopold Louis Robert is a Swiss painter born in 1794 in La Chaux-de Fonds and died in 1835 in Venice.
He studied engraving with Charles Girardet in Paris in 1810 and then at the Ecole des Beaux-Arts in 1812. He also attended the workshop of Jacques-Louis David where he perfected his painting and engraving skills.
He obtained a second prize of Rome for engraver in 1814. But in 1818 he left for a long trip to Italy, to Rome where many families of imprisoned brigands were to serve as models.
He frequented Juliette Récamier's salon. In 1827 King Louis-Philippe bought the composition "Naples and Spring".

Our two paintings are painted on their original canvas and monogrammed LR. The frames of the same period are being restored.
