Makua mask, from Tanzania

Facial mask with labret on the upper lip, Makua Tanzania.
Height 22 cm, hard wood, dark brown patina, trace of polychromy.
First half of the 20th century.
 
Close to the Makonde, the Makua are established on the banks of the Zambezi River. They are present in the Mtwara region of southern Tanzania and northern Mozambique.
