Pair of pot holders with Aquatic Loves, Louis XV style

Gilded Bronze and Blue Glass. This pair of pot holders with a very harmonious shape and decoration is distinguished by the way it plays around an allegory of Earth and Water.
The base figure an entanglement of rocaille waves and floral scrolls, tapering at the top to accentuate the gush effect of the deep blue vase.
Its neck is decorated with rocaille motifs and garlands of flowers in gilt bronze. The vases are illuminated by two dolphin-tailed Puttis, their foreheads encircled by a crown of rushes. They are striking for the delicacy of the modelling of their faces and their busts, very harmonious. The hand chiselling, which is excellent on the whole, reaches a peak in the movement of their hair and the veins of the rush leaves.
