Charles Gilbert-Martin, Flowers

Born on August 26, 1839 in Gironde and died on July 21, 1905 in St Thomas de Coniac. Painter of landscapes, flowers and portraits but also caricaturist and French journalist.

After the Revolution of September 4, 1870, Gilbert-Martin was attached for a few months to the Ministry of the Interior, then entrusted to Gambetta, and worked with the delegation of the government of national defense in Tours. He then joined the northern army commanded by Faidherbe. Staff Captain, he was raised to the rank of Squadron Leader during the last months of the war against Germany.
