Received as a Master on December 3, 1766, Denis Louis Ancellet had set up his carpentry shop on rue Saint-Nicolas in Paris in 1780 after having occupied a space on rue de Charenton. His furniture uses walnut or mahogany, woods embellished with ebony inlays. His furniture was appreciated by his contemporaries and the Garde Meuble Royal ordered about sixty pieces of furniture from him to supply the Château de Saint-Cloud, including chests of drawers and secretaries.
