Imari

The word Imari refers to the place where Japanese ceramics were produced and exported since the establishment of the ports operated by the Dutch after the creation of the United Provinces Oriental Company.

Through the Imari process, we witness the artistic encounter between Asia and Europe. If the motifs are indeed created to please the Europeans, they are largely inspired by the great artistic traditions of Asia. The technique itself perpetuates an ancestral know-how, relying on the white background of the porcelain to set dominant colors: cobalt blue, red tending to saffron
