Vernaison market

1920. For several years now, ragpickers have been spreading their booty between the fortifications of the city of Paris and the houses of the village of Saint-Ouen. This area, called "La Zone", is the scene of weekly untimely unpacking that eventually annoys the authorities.

It was then that Romain Vernaison had the idea of setting up shacks on a piece of land he owned, in order to rent them at a high price to the ragpickers who could display their merchandise.
In doing so, he institutionalized the flea market...

Today, the oldest of the flea markets retains, on more than 9000 m2, what made its charm and its fame. It is the kingdom of bric-a-brac, abandoned objects that find a second life thanks to him.
