Galerie Edith Davidson

Edith Davidson has always loved antiques. She arrived at the flea market by chance to replace a friend who was going on vacation and asked her to replace her during the month of August. She discovered a fabulous universe which decided her to take a store at the flea market.

In this same store, she met a Scottish antique dealer who spent a lot of time with her. And as he was not buying her anything, she ended up thinking that it was for her that he was coming. "It all ended in marriage," says Edith Davidson.

Since then, after specializing in English furniture, she has evolved her choices by following fashion to offer quality objects that draw on the history of the 18th and 19th centuries, also making forays into contemporary furniture.

Impressive clock in the shape of a cathedral from the Charles X period. It has advised its gilding with mercury of origin. Its stained glass windows are night blue for the towers and blue and red in the lower parts.
The chiseling of the doors, the capitals and the pilasters is very fine.

Its movement works perfectly.

Born in 1814 in Nantes, he died in 1872. He was a pupil of Léon Cogniet from whom he kept his taste for history painting. From 1842 to 1866 he exhibited numerous portraits, genre scenes and mythological scenes at the Salon.

He was also an excellent draughtsman.

Our painting, very finely painted, shows the gods Bacchus, Aphrodite and Pan lying against oak trees near a stream. A luxuriant vegetation surrounds them, caresses them and brings them the freshness of the undergrowth.

The god Pan has left his flock, which can be seen in the background, blowing his flute, perhaps thinking of Syrinx. Aphrodite dressed in an antique dress, caresses a goat with the ivy that has escaped from the thyrse of the god Bacchus.

Signed on the left. V de Limoélan.

The gilded wooden frame with gold leaf will be restored.
