Eugène Berthelon was a French painter born in Paris in 1829. He studied painting under Eugène Lavieille and Étienne-Prosper Berne-Bellecour.

He developed a passion for Breton seashores and woodland landscapes, which he immortalized with precise, agile brushstrokes. Berthelon uses soft colors such as gray or pink, under clear skies, lightly lit by the sun or the moon.

He was 35 when he exhibited for the first time in 1864. From 1881 to 1914, he exhibited at the Salon des artistes français. He also won a silver medal at the 1889 Universal Exhibition.

He died in 1916 in Paris, where he spent the last years of his life. Eugène Berthelon painted a large body of work, full of tender colors and enchanting landscapes.
